Max Levchin has served as Affirm’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer since he founded the company in 2012 with the mission to build honest financial products that improve lives. Levchin started by reinventing the broken credit system—a problem he experienced firsthand early in his adult life. Since then Affirm has helped millions of consumers pay over time, while driving growth for thousands of merchants.

Prior to Affirm, Levchin founded several companies, including Slide, a personal media-sharing service acquired by Google in 2010. He was also a co-founder of PayPal and served as its Chief Technology Officer until its sale to eBay in 2003. Throughout his career, Levchin has served on several boards such as Yahoo!, Yelp and Evernote. He was born in Kiev, Ukraine, emigrated to Chicago in 1991, and holds a B.S. in Computer Science from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
